Venice Gas House Trolley is a cerebral groove.  Based out of Madison, WI, the band initially hearkens back to ancient times when folks would freak out digging ecstatic poets and musicians and then explodes through the present and into the future with vocal effects, bass, and twisting rhythms. The group's sound and content encompasses groovy funk, aggressive jam, tribal rock, high and lonesome country, avant-garde jazz and ambient chill.   The group features the words and voice of Adam Gregory Pergament, a finalist for the 2009 MNSWA "Urban Griot" International/National Performer of the Year and two time Madison Area Music Awards finalist, Tim Peeters, a Madison Area Music Award winner on bass, and Josh Pultorak on drums.

"...very chill yet gripping.  The band [Venice Gas House Trolley] is on a mission to bridge the gap between poetry and music and does so....  ...some hip jive cat daddy."  Gapers Block Presents: Transmission (Chicago, IL)

"[Adam Gregory Pergament is] one of the most unique and riveting performers on the Midwestern musical and artistic landscape.  The group [Venice Gas House Trolley] is on the cutting edge of the nationwide expansion of new forms of spoken word and includes two Madison-area Music Award finalists.  The band is unique, theatrical and musical."  DeKalb Chronicle (DeKalb, IL)

"[Venice Gas House Trolley's self-titled debut CD] Unites beat-style poetry with a variety of instrumentation [and] successfully formulates a new juxtaposition of the interactions of spoken word with complimentary rhythms.  Budding with potential. (9 out of 10 stars)"
Maximum Ink {Wisconsin's Music Magazine} (Madison, WI)

"Words flowing over bass and drums thrumming jazz, groove, folk, country, blues, psychedelic, jam. Man!" The Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA)

"...Venice Gas House Trolley combines spoken word poetry with organic live music creating a cutting edge, one-of-a-kind expression."  365ink.com (Dubuque, IA)

"These are no frail photocopy-folk tunes, but rather legends and tales drawn from a deep well of historical experience; stories that place the listener into the leather boots of the prospectors and drifters they depict.  When you hear music created by an American ghost, it gets you to your bones.  Right down to the fiber of that human part of you."  Emmie Magazine (Madison, WI)  [to download the complete article please click here ARTICLE; to view the complete magazine please click here EMMIE MAGAZINE]

"I was almost at once "wowed" by the music. The music, when combined with the words and the personalities of the performers blended to create both a mellow performance and yet at the same time an intensely engaging one. You had a bit of the beatnik era sound, some 60's vibes and some great blue moments. This event felt like a musical bacchanal!"

Audience Review at The 2007 Minnesota Fringe Festival [For more reviews please click here]

"This is the kind of show you just want to disappear inside of for a while and forget the outside world. This kind of show makes that possible, if only for an hour. This kind of show also makes you want to create a better world where more shows just like this can live and grow. We could all use a little of the aggressive innocence Venice Gas House Trolley is peddling.  If they came back, I'd go again.  And you know I don't say that about too many shows."

Matthew Everett; official 2007 Minnesota Fringe Festival Blogger [To read the complete review please click here]

"The Trolley is the latest vehicle for Adam Gregory Pergament, local poet extraordinaire, known for his jarring lyrical rants set to music.  Few people in this scene are as creative as Pergament, who turns music into performance art."

Isthmus Newspaper (Madison, WI)
